Have you ever wondered what a new car smells like without actually smelling it in person?
Google Nose Beta, an advanced innovation by the search-engine giants, claimed to allow its users to experience different smells virtually.
According to the company, Google Nose beta “leverages new and existing technologies to offer the sharpest olfactory experience available.”
But, is Google Nose real? Let us tell you!
WHAT IS GOOGLE NOSE BETA AND HOW DOES IT WORK?
Google Nose Beta was introduced as a new dimension to its search engine where users would be able to search for different smells.
Launched in 2013, it was described as the “flagship olfactory knowledge feature enabling users to search for smells.”
The Beta smells were said to “seamlessly connect scent to search.”
This means, your screen would emit a certain scent for each search using its database.

IS GOOGLE NOSE REAL?
Before you get your hopes up, let us reveal to you that Google Nose is not real.
As plausible as the idea of an artificial nose seems, the search-engine giants introduced its much-talked-about feature on April 1, years ago, thus pulling an elaborate prank on all of us.
It continues to amuse many to this day, as everybody wants to be able to experience scents through their screens.
Unfortunately, that’s not possible, at least not yet.
THE PRANK NEVER GETS OLD
Google Nose and its supposed super-features are once again being discussed on social media as people continue to fall for the old joke.
This has become a favorite among teachers as the online classroom setup is tailor-made to pull this prank.
Sharing the reaction of their students to the prank, one Twitter user wrote:” Pranked our FDKs this morning with Google Nose beta and had so much fun smelling through our screens! Lots of big reactions to the stinky wet dog smell!”
“We also introduced ‘Google Nose Beta’ and it was pretty hilarious! E said ‘well I think I can’t smell it because I don’t really have a good sense of smell,” wrote another teacher.
One Twitter user who fell victim to the famous joke wrote: “I’ll never forget the April fools when I fell for the Google Nose prank.”
