Writer Amanda Brown and TV journalist-turned mompreneur Chloe Sommer have created a multisensory experience, with a mistletoe kissing booth and Santa selfie station.
The holiday spirit is coming to Instagrammable life in downtown L.A. with Fa La Land, the brainchild of Legally Blonde writer Amanda Brown and TV journalist-turned mompreneur Chloe Sommer.
Opening Nov. 18, and geared toward all ages, the pop-up multisensory museum with a Christmas countdown clock and Santa selfie station — complete with a flower-bombed sled with Fa La Land vanity plates — also features several interactive spaces. An old-fashioned North Pole village lets visitors write and mail letters to Santa, while Fa La Forest is a maze of fluorescent trees.
Candyfornia is an all-pink sweetscape, worthy of Elle Woods, where you can dive into a pool of gummy Dots, says Sommer. Fa La Fest, with its own stage and mistletoe kissing booth, is a nod to music festival culture and Chloe’s husband, Kirk Sommer — the co-head of music at WME.
“Our love of film will come out in a movie theater space which will screen ‘Miracle on Alameda Street,'” adds Brown, explaining that the short is a nod to Fa La Land’s location at the ROW DTLA shopping complex.
A retail space offers whimsical stocking stuffers, including scented candy cane necklaces ($23), Harry Barker Santa dog toys ($14) and cotton candy shaped like Donald Trump’s hair ($5). Says Brown, “I couldn’t resist.”
Fa La Land, Nov. 18-Jan. 6, building 2, suite 138, 787 S. Alameda St., Los Angeles. Tickets, $37.
