We’ve seen our share of delicious edible vessels, but these living, breathing plates by designer Lina Saleh are a game-changer.

Saleh teamed up with a professional chef to create the collection of silicone plates that reacted to touch and weight, sinking, oscillating, rippling and bouncing as the diner eats their meal.

As you can see from the video above, the plates add a theatrical, even mesmerising element to dinner time – it’s a real trip.

From turning inside-out to wobbling like jelly, the dining experience becomes interactive.

They’re designed to create “a bond between food and diner through movements that extend the gastronomical experience of the taste”.

“The Plates aim at changing our perception of plate ware, turning the dinner into a responsive conversation between the diner and the food, surprising the diner and connecting them to the food in a new way,” Saleh told 9Honey Kitchen.

The plates are made from silicone, hand cast to ensure maximum range of movement.
