But now, instead of the smell of stale beer, sweat and (if you’re of a certain generation) cigarette smoke, Glasgow bars are scrubbing up quite nicely.
Pub and restaurant group, Signature Pub Group, has introduced a range of scents to its 20 bars around Scotland, with individual scent coming to four Glasgow bars.
According to the scent hounds behind the pub perfumes, the fragrances have been handpicked and tailored to each location to create an evocative and memorable sensory experience.
For example, punters will soon be able to sniff ‘rich mahogany, smoky grapefruit, patchouli and vetiver’ over a pint at The Spiritualist in Glasgow.
The full Glasgow scent menu serves up the following: Signature Pub Group’s Fragrance Menu
- White Pepperwood: Captivating notes of pepperwood, white rose of Scotland, fresh green citrus and sensual amber. Can be found at The Smoking Fox
- Sandalwood Vanilla: Indulge your senses with honey mandarin, white patchouli leaves, creamy Sandalwood, warm musk and vanilla at The Raven
- Dark Vanilla Pomelo: A sparkling pink pomelo blend with fresh mandarin, currant and creamy coconut, perfectly balanced with a hit of jasmine followed by vanilla and tonka bean at Church on the Hill
- Mahogany: The elixir of rich mahogany is enhanced with smoky grapefruit, patchouli and vetiver with velvety vanilla and incense. Can be found at The Spiritualist.
Louise Maclean, Director of Sales and Marketing at Signature Pub Group said: “People use scents to relax, energise or create a special atmosphere at home and in day-to-day life. We wanted to enhance their experience in the same way and help our customers create lasting memories when they visit our bars and restaurants.
“Signature Pub Group invests heavily into curating the perfect customer experience, and the Signature Scents are a key part of the overall package. Each of our venues are totally unique and we’ve had great fun choosing the individual Signature Scents to fit perfectly with the atmosphere and offering.
“My personal favourite is at The Raven in Glasgow which has a wonderful heady and evocative perfume, with top notes of honey mandarin, white patchouli leaves, creamy sandalwood and vanilla, that reflect the bar’s fair-ground theme and new high energy social darts experience.
“Each of the venues welcome customers with the perfect amount of fragrance making them feel comfortable, fully immersing them into the venue’s atmosphere, but not overpowering them.”
